Clay Bank to Tripsdale circular
Circular walk from Clay Bank car park to Tripsdale and passing Badgers Rock. The aim of this 10 mile walk is to see two attractions - Tripsdale, renowned as a gem, and Badgers Stone which it turns out was not named after a badger. It is a much better walk when the heather is in full bloom – bright red!
The name 'Badger' is a corruption of 'Bacheler' - origin unknown - and has no relevance to any resemblance it might bear to a badger.
Start at Clay Bank car park, just before the entry to Bilsdale. Then there is a steep walk on the Cleveland Way up to Urra Moor where a blackened path foes off to the right. From here there are superb views including looking over Hasty Bank, Cold Moor, and Cringle Moor. The path leads to Tripsdale after 4 miles, a steep descent and ascent and crossing Tripsdale Beck. Badgers Stone is reached after 6.5 miles. Then continue on the loop to get back to the car park.
