Great Ayton local cycles from Land's End to John o'Groats

Inspired by cycling LEJOG, Mike Newton writes a Kindle Book about his experience.

In September 2023 and at the age of 73, Great Ayton resident Mike Newton embarked on the fantastic challenge of cycling from Land's End to John o'Groats over the course of three weeks. LEJOG, as commonly known, is a very popular and renowned cycle ride with avid cyclists travelling the 1,189 mile route, which stretches the full length of the UK from the stunning coast of Cornwall at Land's End to the northern tip of mainland Scotland. Mike raised over £1,500 for charity.

"I live in Great Ayton and at the age of 73, I decided to cycle LEJOG (Land's End to John o'Groats), and cycled it over 3 weeks last September. It was a superb experience. I have spent time writing a Kindle book - It took more time than the ride itself.

This book is not about a head down, stare at the front wheel and cycle as fast as you can book. I read up about all the interesting places that I would pass through and have included small details of the places. I never knew about the Caledonian Canal, the Great Glen Way or much about the Lochs in Scotland. With the additional information, I could think about the highlights of each place as I cycled through even if I did not have the time or inclination to stop. The book includes 230 photographs, in the 3 weeks of cycling". Mike Newton
