Celebrating Local History Month, Great Ayton Discovery Centre will be laying on a series of events in Great Ayton.
Due to massive demand Great Ayton History Society (GAHS) is running its ‘Our Village in 1911’ display at the Discovery Centre on the High Street for another week! The display was due to conclude on 31st May.
- From Tuesday 14th – Friday 7th June, Great Ayton History Society will be launching the “Our Village in 1911” project with maps, photographs, census returns and stories of those who lived in the village in 1911. Come along and join the project!
- From Tuesday 21st – Friday 7th June, following the formal re-opening of the Cook Cottage Memorial Garden, an exhibition of the recent archaeological work on the site of the Cook cottage and the story of the shipment of the cottage to Australia will be displayed.
- On Wednesday 22nd May from 3.00- 4.30pm two of our staff members will be holding a workshop on ancestry.com to assist those who want to explore family or house histories.
