Why not get active and get involved with the Walk and Talk Trust's annual fundraising walks across the North of England this summer.

The Big Smile is organised by the Walk and Talk Trust, a Durham based family founded charity. It consists of fifty guided fundraising walks across the North of England suitable for varying abilities.

The work of the charity covers County Durham with reach to North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland focusing on the mental and physical benefits of walking and talking, specificially wishing to encourage children to get outdoors and get active. One of their aims is for all children and disadvantaged adults to have access to walking boots to help encourage them to walk more. The charity is also very keen to focus their efforts on groups that are socially isolated or disadvantaged, or who suffer mental health problems.

Walk number 45 takes you from the idyllic village of Great Ayton, meeting on the High Green (awaiting definite confirmation of meeting point, the Big Smile website currently states meet at the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum) and leads you through the inspirational and stunning views of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and Cleveland Way National Trail all the way up to the summit of the famous and mysterious Roseberry Topping. A route seeped in history and natural landscapes.

The walk will lead you to Little Ayton then into Easby Woods and through Ayton Bank Woods then up to Captain Cook's Monument on Easby Moor. From Easby Moor you'll wonder back down into woodland then upto the summit of Roseberry Topping before descending back down into Great Ayton where you can enjoy a bite to eat and something to drink at one of its wonderful independent cafés, pubs or restaurants.

Start: Meet at 8.30 for 9.00am departure

Difficulty rating: 3 stars out of 5

Distance: 13.24 miles or 21.3 kilometres

To commit to a walk there is no registration fee, only a £99 minimum fundraising target.
